Gulf Coast Selects Class for First Board Institute

Gulf Coast Community Foundation has selected a group of aspiring and experienced nonprofit board members for the inaugural class of its Gulf Coast Board Institute.

The 26 community members will participate in four in-depth training sessions early next year to learn about responsibilities and best practices in nonprofit board governance. The Board Institute, a new component of Gulf Coast’s Invest in Incredible initiative, is designed educate and strengthen the pool of volunteers prepared to serve on nonprofit boards in our region. The participants also will be invited to peer-learning sessions to continue developing their knowledge and skills after they complete the formal training.

“We had wonderful interest in this new offering, which tells us we are filling a real need for our nonprofit community,” said Wendy Deming, Gulf Coast’s chief of staff, who manages the I3 initiative. “We couldn’t accommodated everyone who applied, but we look at this first Board Institute as a ‘beta test’ of sorts. Gulf Coast will continually enhance the program based on the experience of participants and offer it to many more community members in the future.”


Gulf Coast intends to offer the program multiple times each year.
