COVID-19 Response

Meeting (and beating) the greatest needs.

Together with our donors, Gulf Coast Community Foundation has provided nearly $6.9 million in grants for COVID-19 relief.

6.9 million dollars

Gulf Coast Community Foundation responded quickly and strategically to the impacts of COVID-19 in our region.

We partnered with Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation in March 2020 to launch our COVID-19 Response Initiative, a joint philanthropic effort to complement governmental response to the pandemic and ensure the well-being of our region. Many Gulf Coast donors also contributed to this fund, and together we have invested over $2.8 million in grants to organizations serving those hit hardest by this crisis.

Our initiative was designed to adapt and evolve with the pandemic's impacts. While we continue to provide emergency relief where it is needed, we are also building the capacity of our nonprofit partners to meet current and future community needs. Watch this video to see how some of our region's nonprofit leaders have innovated during this difficult time.

In addition to more than 130 Gulf Coast donors and funding partners who have contributed to this initiative, our generous donors also have recommended millions of dollars in grants from their funds at Gulf Coast directly to nonprofit organizations for COVID-19 relief, locally and beyond. We also recognize the devastating impacts across our entire nonprofit sector, with arts and cultural organizations among those hit hardest. That's why Gulf Coast awarded $470,000 in emergency Arts Appreciation Grants to 10 of our region’s lead arts agencies last year.

Gulf Coast is so grateful for the many donors and partner who have contributed to this initiative and continue to do so. Many of the biggest challenges our region faces right now were not created by the pandemic; they were exacerbated and accelerated by it. Gulf Coast will continue to work on these systemic issues, together with our donors, through bold and proactive philanthropy.
