Skills + Jobs = Growth
CareerEdge Funders has trained thousands of workers in our region to fill skilled jobs that area employers need to grow—to the tune of nearly $25 million in wage increases so far.
The next phase of a community-driven effort to create a master plan for nearly 42 acres of city-owned land on Sarasota’s Bayfront officially begins today with the announcement of the board of directors for the Sarasota Bayfront Planning Organization.
“Jobs, jobs, jobs still tops in Florida.” That was an above-the-fold headline in our largest local daily last week. The story highlighted University of South Florida’s annual Sunshine State Survey, which found that jobs and the economy remain the most important issue on the minds of Floridians. According to the survey, directed by my longtime friend Dr.
Gulf Coast recently welcomed two additions to its staff team.
Hermione Gilpin came on board September 1 as our newest Philanthropic Advisor. In this role, Hermione works closely with Gulf Coast current donors and other community philanthropists looking for the best ways to invest in their favorite charities and causes and build philanthropic endowments for the region.
Donors Fund Reading Recovery for First-Graders
We recently partnered with the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation and several Gulf Coast donors to help expand an innovative reading program for struggling first-graders in Sarasota County. Through Reading Recovery, students who have great difficulty reading and writing participate in intensive, one-on-one lessons with a trained literacy teacher until they catch up with their peers.
