Nonprofit boards in our region say they are holding more productive meetings, raising more money, and leading their organizations more effectively thanks to the training and resources provided by Building Better Boards.

Building Better Boards is a multi-year initiative of the Foundation that promotes good board governance in the nonprofit community. In today's climate of increased scrutiny and accountability, BBB is helping organizations improve their oversight to accomplish their mission and strengthen their organizations for the future.

In the initiative's first three years, 1,100 board members from 79 organizations completed a Board Online Self-Assessment developed by the Foundation. Thirty-four of these organizations were then selected to complete comprehensive board training. Noted one participating board member: "We are learning a whole new way of handling board business, helping to get our board moving ahead instead of treading water."

How to Participate

Based on the success of the initiative so far, the Foundation made its Board Online Self-Assessment available to all local nonprofits again in fall 2007 (registration has closed). Boards that have registered to take the assessment may click on the link at the top of this page to access the survey.
